
Officially called the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Jordan is an Arab nation in Western Asia, located on the east bank of the Jordan river. It is at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Israel and the West Bank of Palestine borders Jordan. Jordan is defined by ancient monuments, nature reserves and seaside resorts.
Jordan occupies an ancient land, one that bears the traces of many civilizations. The region played a prominent role in biblical history. Jordan has been part of the Ottoman Empire until 1918 and later a mandate of the United Kingdom. Jordan has been an independent kingdom since 1946.

Petra is nicknamed the “Rose City” and feels like a fairy-tale city.
